In this lesson, Dr. Rebecca Bockow will talk about the relationship between the airway and orthodontics. The transverse plane is often overlooked in treatment planning, orthodontics and airway evaluation. She’ll explain why consideration for this dimension is so pivotal in evaluating the airway. There are also important landmarks to consider when evaluating this plane that aren’t always considered which you’ll learn about here. Dr. Bockow will also discuss paradigm shifts in orthodontics from the perspective of a dual trained orthodontist and periodontist.

Dr. Bockow:

Dr. Bockow is not only a board-certified orthodontist, she’s also a board-certified periodontist. She is renowned for her international lectures on topics such as corticotomy-facilitated orthodontic therapy, interdisciplinary treatment planning to airway and sleep disorders as well as skeletal growth patterns. 

Dr. Bockow received her DDS from the University of Washington School of Dentistry and went on to practice as a general practitioner in the Seattle area. She then returned to school and completed a dual training program in orthodontics and periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. During this time she also earned a master’s in oral biology.

Dr. Bockow is an instructor at Spear education and also an affiliate professor at the University of Washington in the Department of Orthodontics. She owns a private practice in the Seattle area devoted to orthodontics and periodontics.

She grew up the Greater Seattle area and attended University Prep for High School. She received a BS in Biology with Honors at Haverford College, where she also played Soccer, Squash, Tennis, and ran Cross Country and Track
